LeClair's Blog
Captain O’Reilly, for my first blog I chose to write on the Native Literature of “The Chief’s Daughters.” From reading this story, I could relate it to my life and I am sure that everyone else can. Just like the two Indian girls had dreams of what they wanted to be in life and how they wanted to live, I did also. They were dreaming of being far away from home, one chose the dull and boring life from the view of the earth and the other chose the bright star and exciting life. It turned out that the two girls fell asleep, started dreaming, and ended up on the star of their choosing. The first girl ended up in a very luxurious place where she had all of the finer things in life that she could ask her, and she was happy of her choosing. The second girl ended up in a servant’s home having to do all the work. The two girls saw their homes back on earth though and wanted to go home, and at the end of the story they both were able to return back to their village. What this story means to me is that what we may view here on earth as the grand and glorious things in life may not always turn out to be true, but those that choose the less famous or less glorious may receive more luxuries like what turned out between the two girls. We all have had dreams of how great and awesome it would be to have all the things in the world. But from this story I think it is telling us that the latter is better, and that the dim life can be a better choice because the lavish life is not always easy. People always have to make some sort of sacrifice to take the better viewing life which can be a hardship down the road. We all can dream and dream of the best things in life, but as we live day to day we should be enthusiastic for each and every day that we have.
